A device for opening and closing a suction hole of an indoor unit of an air conditioner is provided to control opening degree of the suction hole when power-on or wind volume control during the operation, by moving a front panel automatically and precisely using a pinion gear and a rack gear. A device for opening and closing a suction hole of an indoor unit of an air conditioner includes an opening/closing part(200) for moving a front panel(300). The opening/closing part has a fixing element(250) fixed to the front panel, a connection element(240) connected to the other end of the fixing element, a rack gear(230) connected to the other end of the connection element, a pinion gear(220) engaged with the rack gear, and driven by a motor(210) for driving the pinion gear. One end of the front panel is connected to the opening/closing part, and the other end is equipped with an opening/closing support unit.
