<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact optical pickup and a reproducing unit while securing the length of an optical path. <P>SOLUTION: The optical pickup comprises: a light source for emitting a light beam; an objective lens; a reflection means for guiding the light beam to the objective lens; and a beam splitter that is arranged on the optical path between the objective lens and the reflection means, and guides light guided from the objective lens to a light detection means. The light source comprises: an optical pickup arranged at the light detection means side in an axis connecting the beam splitter and the objective lens and at the objective lens side in an axis connecting the beam splitter to the light detection means; and a moving means for moving the pickup in the radial direction of an optical disk storage medium.
