PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress power consumption during the decoding processing without performing special operation, and without limiting its output to either one of video output and sound output, in a device for viewing/listening to a television broadcast which outputs a reception signal of a television broadcast by decoding it. SOLUTION: A television broadcast reception part 8 receives the television broadcast and separates its reception signal into a video signal, a sound signal, and a character signal so as to decode them respectively with a video-signal decoder part 83, a sound-signal decoder part 84, and a character-signal decoder part 85. A CPU 1 acquires a genre of a program broadcasted in a current selected channel so as to put the decoding processing on the television broadcast reception part 8 side under power-saving control corresponding to the genre of the program.
