<p>Cyclohexene-compounds (I), are new. Cyclohexene-compounds of formula (I), are new. R 1> : H, F, Cl, Br, optionally halogenated 1-15C alkyl, where one or more CH 2-group is substituted by -C?=C-, -CH=CH-, -(CO)O-, -O(CO)-, -(CO)- or -O-, where the O atoms are not connected directly, preferably up to 8C alkyl, -alkoxy, -alkenyl or -alkenyloxy; R 2> : R 1>, CN, SCN, NCS or SF 5 (when R 1> is not an ester group of formula (-(CO)O-C 2H 5)); A 1>-A 4> : trans-1,4-cyclohexylene or cyclohexenylene, where one or more non-adjacent CH 2-group is substituted by -O- and/or -S- and H is substituted by F, 1,4-phenylene, where one or two CH-groups are substituted by N and one or more H atom is substituted by Br, Cl, F, CN, methyl, methoxy or singly- or repeatedly fluorinated methyl or methoxy group or 1,4-bicyclo(2,2,2)-octylene, piperidin-1,4-diyl, cylcobut-1,3-diyl, spiro[3.3]heptan-2,6-diyl, naphthalene, anthracene, phenanthrene, anthracene moiety of formula (a), 9,10-dihydro-phenanthrene moiety of formula (b) or (c), 9H-fluorene moiety of formula (d) or 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-naphthalene compound of formula (e), where the hydrogen atom is substituted by F, CN, SCN, SF 5, CH 2F, CHF 2, CF 3, OCH 2F, OCHF 2 or OCF 3, and one or more double bond is substituted by a single bond; M, M 1>, M 2> : -O-, -S-, -CH 2-, -CHY 2>- or -CY 2>Y 1>-, such that the adjacent groups are not simultaneously -O- or -S-; Y 1>, Y 2> : Cl, F, CN, OCF 3 or CF 3; V 1> : H or F; Z 1>-Z 3> : a single bond, -CH 2O-, -(CO)O-, -CF 2O-, -CH 2CH 2CF 2O-, -CF 2CF 2-, -CH 2CF 2-, -CH 2CH 2-, -(CH 2) 4-, -CH=CH-, -CH=CF-, -CF=CF- or -C=C-, where asymmetrical bridges are oriented on both sides; and either a, c : 0-2; and b : 1 or 2; or a+b+c : less than or equal to 4. Independent claims are included for: (1) the preparations of (I); (2) a liquid crystal medium containing at least two mesogenic compound, where at least one compound is (I); and (3) an electro-optical liquid crystal display containing the liquid crystalline medium.
