A backlight unit is provided to use an optical fiber and a light guiding member in which the optical fiber is disposed, thereby reducing thickness and weight of the backlight unit. A backlight unit comprises a light source(102) for generating light, an optical fiber(121) of which both ends are connected to the light source, and a light guiding member(111) for diffusing the light. The optical fiber is disposed within the light guiding member. The optical fiber transfers the light, which is supplied from the light source, to the light guiding member. The optical fiber has a plurality of winding portions.
