PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal electro-optical modulator that is cost-effective and satisfies requirements for the commercial applications, being completely different from the conventional one. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal electro-optical modulator is provided with: a substrate; a first electrode on the substrate; a second electrode on the first electrode; and a modulation structure between the first and the second electrodes; wherein the first and the second electrodes can generate an electric field between the first and the second electrodes, and the modulation structure includes at least one liquid crystal cell that operates on one side of reflection mode and transmission mode under a control of the electric field.
