PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain a display apparatus of a hold type capable of eliminating movement unsharpness in displaying animation while suppressing the degradation in brightness. SOLUTION: A display control circuit 200 includes a frame memory 21, a maximum value detection section 22, a gay scale value conversion section 23, and a black image insertion determination section 24. The gay scale value conversion section 23 includes an LUT selection section 231, a first conversion section 232, a second conversion section 233, and a plurality of LUTs 234. The first conversion section 232 conducts the conversion of the gay scale value in such a manner that the maximum gay scale value within the frame attains the maximum gay scale value of the apparatus within a range where the brightness expansion ratio does not exceed 140%. The second conversion section 233 conducts the linear function-like conversion relating to the data of less than 120 in the gray scale value and the logarithmic function-like conversion relating to the data of 120 or more is the gray scale value.
