PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an internal combustion engine capable of controlling sulfur purge excellently in any condition without complicating control and complicating the engine construction. SOLUTION: A control device for an internal combustion engine E has a processing means for eliminating sulfur content adsorbed by LNC 9 provided in an exhaust passage, a temperature detecting means 29 for detecting temperature of LNC, an air-fuel ratio detecting means (O<SB>2</SB>sensor 27U, 27L) for detecting exhaust gas A/F of LNC, a target air-fuel ratio setting means for setting a target A/F in accordance with the temperature of LNC, and an injection amount control means for controlling fuel injection amount so that the atmosphere of LNC becomes the target A/F.
