<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of excellently suppressing overheating without being affected by a runaway etc., of a CPU when the apparatus becomes abnormal. <P>SOLUTION: When a thermal shutdown circuit 219 detects the overheating of the composite IC 210, a fan 251 is driven through a driver circuit 211 (OR circuit 215) without reference to whether a FANON signal is output from an ASIC 200. Further, while the thermal shutdown circuit 219 detects the overheating of the composite IC 210, motor driving permission (Enable) input from the ASIC 200 to a motor driver 212, and a paper-feed-solenoid-ON signal and a resist-solenoid-ON signal input from the ASIC 200 to driver circuit timer circuits 213 and 214 are invalidated (AND circuits 216, 217, and 218).
