A method for solution polymerizing a polymer resin having a high molecular weight is provided to obtain a polymer resin having a high weight average molecular weight of 130,000 or more with a good conversion rate and a low cost and with preventing the problem according to the high viscosity of a reaction mixture. A method for solution polymerizing a polymer resin having a high molecular weight comprises the steps of preparing a mixture solution comprising a solvent for polymerization and a monomer; initiating the polymerization of the monomer of the mixture solution; and adding a diluting solvent to the reaction mixture before the initiated polymerization is terminated and progressing the polymerization. Preferably the solvent for polymerization and the diluting solvent are at least one selected from the group consisting of a saturated hydrocarbon, a ketone-based solvent, an ester-based solvent and an aromatic solvent; and the monomer is selected from the group consisting of an acrylic monomer, a styrene-based monomer, a vinyl ester-based monomer, a nitrile-based monomer, an amide-based monomer, an epoxy-based monomer, and their mixture.
