AXIALLY STAGED COMBUSTION SYSTEM FOR GAS TURBINE ENGINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an axial staged combustion system for a gas turbine engine. SOLUTION: The system comprises an essential main body structure having a plurality of first and second injectors and a first fuel supply structure for supplying fuel to at least one first injector. The fuel supplied to the one first injector is mixed with air and ignited to produce a flame such that the flame associated with the one first injector defines a flame front having an average length when measured from a reference surface of the essential main body structure. Each of the second injectors comprises a section extending from the reference surface of the essential main body structure through the flame front and having a length greater than the average length of the flame front. A second fuel supply structure provides fuel to at least one second injector.
