A thermoplastic elastomer compound which is relatively soft, has a hardness value lower than 95 Shore A, comprises a thermoplastic elastomer and up to 20% by weight aramid filler in the form of powder with a length/diameter ratio approximately 1: 1 has excellent wear resistance while maintaining good surface friction properties. The thermoplastic elastomer may suitably comprise one or more styrenic block copolymers or a traditional thermoset rubber incorporating a thermoplastic resin. In a preferred embodiment, the elastomer is styrene-ethylene-propylene-styrene. Handlebar grips made of such compounds have improved wear resistant properties. |
