The invention relates to an internal combustion engine for a motor vehicle comprising a number of cylinders (1) each provided with at least one intake port (3, 7) for air and recycled exhaust gases (EGR) and with at least one exhaust port (9, 10), a bypass port (15) with a valve (16) for controlling the flow rate of recycled exhaust gases (EGR) linking the exhaust port to the intake port at a junction point (21, 22), characterized by the fact that the air intake port (3a, 7a) comprises a valve (17a, 18a) for controlling the air flow rate that is placed inside the air intake port upstream from the junction point (21, 22), and that controlling means (23) are capable of acting upon the valve for controlling the flow rate of the recycled exhaust gases (EGR) and upon the valve for controlling the air flow rate whereby alternatively drawing, via the intake port, either the air or the recycled exhaust gases (EGR). |
