The present invention relates to a method and means useful therein for a simultaneous detection and identification of bacterial species that would likely be used as bioterrorism agents. More particularly, the present invention relates to the simultaneous detection of the presence or absence of Bacillus anthracis, Yersinia pestis and Francisella tularensis, in a single real time PCR assay. The invention also relates to species-specific primers and Taqman MGB probes useful in the method of the invention. The invention further relates to a kit for use in the diagnosis of bacterial bioterrorism agents. In addition, the invention further relates an infection-free control plasmid to verify the result of the real time PCR analysis method of the invention.
