When reproducing an AVClip recorded in a BD-ROM, it is judged which of the predetermined conditions is satisfied by each elementary stream to be reproduced. The conditions are that a reproduction device has the capability to reproduce the elementary stream (a), the linguistic attribute of the elementary stream is matched with the linguistic setting of the reproduction device side (b), and the channel attribute of the elementary stream is surrounded and the reproduction device has the surround output capability (c). The reproduction device assigns a priority to each elementary stream according to the pattern of the conditions which are judged to be satisfied and selects and reproduces a stream according to the priority.
