The method involves activating a loudspeaker (10) by a signal source (20) with an audio signal. An acoustic signal with predetermined sound emission characteristics is emitted by the loudspeaker, and is reproduced dependent on acoustic pressure from an angle to a main sound emission direction (24) of the loudspeaker. An orientation of the loudspeaker relative to a horizontal reference level (26) is detected, and the sound emission characteristics are modified dependent on the orientation. An independent claim is also included for an audio system comprising a loudspeaker.
