The device comprises a mast able to be fixed on a support surface and a caisson (2) having a front face carrying the information. A sheath (3) is fixed on the caisson rear face and defines with it a pre-mounted assembly (1) to be placed on the mast. The caisson rear face comprises a recess (7) in which the sheath is housed. An Independent claim is included for a method of placing the signpost device.
