PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve repetitive recording durability of a rewritable phase transition type optical recording medium.

SOLUTION: When recording/reproduction of information is performed by locally irradiating a medium for information recording formed by forming a recording and reproducing function layer having a phase transition type recording layer on a substrate with laser light, control of a laser condensing area is performed so that a laser condensing area on the phase transition type recording layer during recording is made larger than that during reproduction.
