Measurement is effected through relative movement (V) between the edge and one or more measurement points of proximity measurement equipment (2, 3, 4). Positions of relative movements are determined during the taking of measurements. To measure the edge geometry, the measurement results from proximity measurement devices are combined with those giving positions of relative motion.
