PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a contact switch in which contact wear is reduced by suppressing generation of a contact arc. SOLUTION: In the contact switch, the side faces 9e, 1e which are in parallel with the attracting direction of a movable iron core and which are mutually opposed and not attracted, and contacting pole faces 9d, 9g, 1d, 1g which are mutually attracted perpendicularly or nearly perpendicularly to the attraction direction of the movable iron core are formed in the movable iron core and a fixed iron core. Immediately before movable points 11 at attraction of the movable iron core 9 come into contact with fixed contacts 5, areas and spacings of the opposing side faces 9e, 1e and the contacting pole faces 9d, 9g, 1d, 1g are set so that magnetic resistance between the side faces of the opposing side faces 9e, 1e becomes lower than the magnetic resistances between the contacting pole faces of the contacting pole faces 9d, 9g, 1d, 1g.
