To provide a wireless communication apparatus capable of exhibiting an improved communication characteristic in a case where the relative distance from the other end of communication is relatively short. A phase control part (22) is provided which performs the same phase control in transmission and/or reception for each of paired antenna elements (30) disposed at positions symmetric to a straight line indicative of a communication direction. Because of this provision, since the phase differences from the center position for the paired antenna elements (30) disposed at positions symmetric to the straight line indicative of the communication direction are equal, the same phase control is performed for each of the paired antenna elements (30), whereby, even when the relative distance from a wireless tag (14) that is the other end of communication changes, a beam can be formed in accordance with that distance. That is, there can be provided a wireless tag communication apparatus (12) capable of exhibiting an improved communication characteristic in a case where the relative distance from the other end of communication is relatively short.
