An apparatus and a method for setting paper in a device for image forming device are provided to obtain best print quality by setting print quality and paper information through an automatic setting unit. A method for setting paper in a device for image forming device includes the steps of: once print command is input, determining whether information on print quality and paper is pre-set or not; if information on print quality and paper is not pre-set, ordering A PWM(Pulse Width Modulation,50) to check direct current level signal provided to a conveying device to detect paper during pickup; and performing printing after setting printing optimized for paper.
