PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkylacrylate copolymer VI (viscosity index) modifiers and the use. SOLUTION: The new polyfunctional polymer viscosity modifier contains an addition reaction product which is prepared by forming a base polymer containing an acylated alkylacrylate copolymer and prepared by reacting the first monomer containing alkylacrylate and the second monomer containing an olefincarboxyl acylating agent under condition effective for free radical polymerizarion of the first and second monomers (alternatively, the above base polymer may be further reacted with an amine compound to form a polyfunctional polyalkylacrylate copolymer). The base polymer exhibits good viscosity increasing effect. The base polymer and the polyfunctional polyalkylacrylate copolymer viscosity modifier has an excellent thickening effect, low temperature characteristics, dispersive property, antioxidation characteristics.
