<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an organic polymer complex usable for thermal recording materials and capable of increasing heat sensitivity and image keeping quality, to provide an organic polymer complex, and to provide thermal recording materials using the complex. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing an organic polymer complex comprises a dispersing step in which a coloring ingredient-containing liquid containing at least a coloring ingredient, an isocyanate compound and a volatile organic solvent is dispersed in a water phase to prepare a dispersion liquid dispersed with oil drops containing the coloring ingredient-containing liquid and a polymerization step in which the isocyanate compound in the oil drops is reacted to polymerize, wherein the volatile organic solvent content in the dispersion liquid at 70% reaction degree in the polymerization step is ≤10% based on the content at polymerization reaction start.
