PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aliphatic-aromatic polyester improved in impact resistance, flexibility, resistance to heat decomposition, productivity, biodegradability and tear resistance. SOLUTION: The aliphatic-aromatic polyester comprises at least an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid unit, aromatic dicarboxylic acid unit, aliphatic and/or alicyclic diol unit, and hydroxy carboxylic acid unit. The content of the hydroxy carboxylic acid unit in the aliphatic-aromatic polyester is 0.01-50 mole% based on the total of the whole constituent units of the aliphatic-aromatic polyester.
