An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) device and a driving method thereof are provided to decrease a brightness variation by changing a backlight in proportion to a brightness variation in respective frames. A frame processor(210) multiplies a frame frequency of a current frame and changes grayness values of odd-numbered and even-numbered multiplied frames. A brightness detector(250) uses image data of a current frame to detect brightness values of respective pixels, and calculates an average value of the detected brightness values. A grayness average calculator(260) calculates averages of grayness conversion values of the respective pixels in even-numbered and odd-numbered frames. A backlight adjuster(270) generates a backlight brightness control signal for controlling a brightness of a backlight assembly according to a brightness average value and a grayness conversion average value. An inverter(280) generates a driving current in proportion to the brightness level and supplies the driving current to the backlight assembly.
