A method and an apparatus for generating multiple tones are provided to suppress harmonic components in an output tone by increasing a frequency selectivity of a tone generator. An apparatus for generating multiple tones includes a DSB(Double Side Band) mixer(150), a notch filter(160), and a frequency divider(180). The DSB mixer mixes first and second high frequency signals to generate a DSB signal having first and second frequency components. The notch filter filters the DSB signal and outputs a signal having one of the first and second frequency components. The frequency divider divides one of the first and second frequency signals and the output signal from the notch filter to generate a quadrature phase signal. A frequency selector(170) selectively outputs one of the first and second frequency signals and the output signal from the notch filter to the frequency divider.
