A method and an apparatus for measuring the performance parameter of an LSP(Label Switch Path) using an OAM(Operation and Maintenance) performance monitoring packet in an MPLS(Multi Protocol Label Switching) network are provided to calculates the value of an SLA(Service Level Agreement) performance parameter by calculating the packet loss rate of an LSP using the Tx counter field of an MPLS OAM packet and the packet delay and jitter of the LSP using the time stamp field of the MPLS OAM packet. A line interface unit for MPLS OAM packet processing consists of a packet transceiver part(710), a frame multiplexing/demultiplexing part(720), a network processor part(730) and a switch fabric interface part(740). The packet transceiver part(710) converts a plurality of data packets and OAM packets, which are optical signals, into electrical signals. The frame multiplexing/demultiplexing part(720) multiplexes the electrical data and OAM frames inputted from the packet transceiver part(710) and transfers them to the network processor part(730). Also the frame multiplexing/demultiplexing part(720) demultiplexes a plurality of packets, processed through the network processor part(730), and transfers them to the packet transceiver part(710). The network processor part(730) classifies inputted frames into data packets and OAM packets and processes them. The switch fabric interface part(740) delivers generic data packets to another line interface unit, based on forwarding information.
