METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MODULATING SUB-PIXEL IN GRAYSCALE DISPLAY

A method and an apparatus for modulating a sub-channel pixel in a display for representing multi gray scales are provided to prevent the deterioration of image quality by modulating the pixel of a sub-channel through dithering. In pixel modulating method of a sub-channel, which black and white high gray scale input images of M+K bits are represented through plural sub-channels having a low gray scale of M bits. Plural mask patterns are generated(S310). The mask patterns of plural sub-channels are selected from the generated plural mask patterns(S320). Weighted values are determined using the values of the selected mask patterns and the least significant bit of the K bits of an input image(S330). The M bit data of the plural sub-channels are obtained by applying the weighted values(S360).
