A transport format detection method and a device are provided to vary a power ratio threshold value according to channel situations when a format of a transmission channel is detected by using BTFD(Blind Transport Format Detection) using a power ratio, thereby improving transport format performance of a terminal. At least one of a PDU(Protocol Data Unit) retransmission rate and a BLER(Block Error Rate) of data received through a transmission data channel is confirmed(601,602). At least one of the PDU retransmission rate and the BLER is compared with predetermined reference values, and a threshold value of a receiving power ratio of the transmission data channel is set for a reference channel according to the compared results(603-609). The set threshold value is compared with the power ratio to detect a format of the transmission data channel.
