Portable aerating apparatus comprises an aerating head 7 releasably connected via a manually operable release valve 5 to a CO2 or other gas container 3, the head 7 being provided with means for supporting a bottle holding the liquid to be aerated and for urging the bottle mouth against a spout-like opening 12 in the head 7, an aerating tube 20 extending from the head 7 through the opening 12 to depend into the bottle and the head 7 having a safety valve 22 which operates automatically to release gas to atmosphere when a predetermined pressure exists in the bottle. The head 7 is fitted to the upper end of a cylindrical vessel 11 with a lower open end for insertion of a bottle which is held in air-tight contact with the spout 12 by means of a hinged cap 13 urged into closed position by a pivoted arm 14 fitted with a roller 15 which moves over a cam surface 16 on the cap 13 and engages a recess 17 over a dead centre. The valve 22 may be manually operated to release excess CO2 by depressing a lever arm 23 or a push-button 24, Fig. 2 (not shown), on a lever arm 25. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the bottle holder 28 holds a plurality of bottles which are treated simultaneously and are urged by locking levers or spring pressure into contact with the spouts 12.</p> |
