A vacuum cleaner and a dust collecting device thereof are provided to automatically compress dust within a dust collecting vessel for maximizing the dust collecting capacity, and facilitate discharge of the collected dust by continuing the dust compression even when the vacuum cleaner is deactivated. A dust collecting device of a vacuum cleaner comprises a dust separation part for separating dust from inhaled air and a dust collecting vessel contouring a dust storage part to store the separated dust. The dust collecting vessel comprises a first case(240) connected to the dust separation part, a second case(250) rotatably assembled to the first case, and first and second pressure members(270,280) mounted to the dust storage part to reduce the size of the dust stored in the dust storage part during the rotating process of the second case.
