PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for further optimizing a time up to completion of starting from beginning of the starting, while restraining a misfire when starting an engine, in a control device of the internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: The control device of a compression ignition type internal combustion engine having a plurality of cylinders, has: a glow plug provided for every cylinder; a combustion state detecting means for detecting a combustion state of the respective cylinders; and a glow plug temperature control means for raising the temperature of the glow plug in the cylinder of causing misfire and for lowering the temperature of the glow plug in the ignited cylinder. In the ignited cylinder, the temperature of the glow plug is further lowered as the time required for completing the starting of the internal combustion engine, becomes longer.
