PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fall prevention device of elevators capable of operating an emergency stop device by engaging emergency stop means with each other if the unintended fall of a car occurs due to leakage of oil. SOLUTION: An elevator having the emergency stop device 4 holding the car 2 on a guide rail 3 by operating when a rope is broken or loosened comprises fall prevention means 7, 11. The fall prevention means are so positioned that they are not overlapped with each other in a plane and do not interfere with the lifting of the car while the car is traveling, moved to the position where they are overlapped with each other in a plane and interfere with each other when the car is stopped and a door is open, and operate the emergency stop device by engaging with each other if an unintended fall of the car occurs.
