PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce current consumption in a search mode, and also to rapidly perform transition to an authentication mode when an opposite party enters an area to be authenticated. SOLUTION: An authentication signal 202 is normally transmitted from a second communication apparatus 1 to a first communication apparatus 3. When the authentication signal 202 is received from the second communication apparatus 1, the first communication apparatus 3 performs authentication communication by returning an authentication reply 203 to the second communication apparatus 1. In the case of the search mode, a search signal 207 is transmitted from the first communication apparatus 3 to the second communication apparatus 1. When the search signal 202 is received from the first communication apparatus 3, the second communication apparatus 1 performs communication by returning a search reply 209 to the second communication apparatus 1.
