A lottery system comprises a draw comprising a plurality of entries, a centralised prize pool stored on a database and a prize set associated with the draw with prizes from the prize set being awarded to winning entries in the draw. The entries have an associated entry fee and are sold or distributed to players through at least one selected merchant on a merchant network. The prizes from the prize set include at least one custom lottery prize. The at least one custom lottery prize is funded from the prize pool such that, for participation in the lottery, the selected merchant and/or the related merchant is arranged to obtain at least one sale computed from the prize pool as a result of the at least one custom lottery prize.
