<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wheel bearing device for achieving a longer life of a bearing by preventing the wear of a seal to improve sealing performance. <P>SOLUTION: The wheel bearing device comprises the seal 9 mounted in an opening of an annular space formed between an outward member 4 and an inner ring 5, and a predetermined amount of grease sealed in the bearing. The seal 9 has a plurality of lips 13a, 13b, 13c, and grease 14 which is the same as the grease sealed in the bearing is previously applied to the lips. The approximately uniform grease 14 in the non-used condition exists between each of the plurality of lips 13a, 13b, 13c and a slinger 11 with which the lips have slide contact during the pre-conditioning of the bearing. This prevents the wear of the lips, particularly, the initial wear of the lips to improve the sealing performance while avoiding the deterioration of the grease 14 as a result that the grease sealed in the bearing is mixed with the grease 14 applied to the seal 9 during operation and then softened or hardened. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
