A valve comprises a body having a chamber with coaxial outlet and inlet openings 1, 2, and a plurality of balls 7 in the chamber, the arrangement being such that the balls can cluster together by gravity on the bottom wall of the chamber so as to leave a free passage through the valve and on excess flow one of the balls is moved by the fluid to the position shown, closing the outlet 1. The chamber may be shaped as shown and has a smooth finish. In an alternative embodiment, two balls are housed in a chamber having a prismatic shape, the top and bottom each being formed by two inclined planes. A pipe connection 9, sealed by a seal 11 and retained by a nut 13, is insertable through the chamber to displace the balls to the position of Fig. 2 and establish a permanent connection between the inlet and outlet.</p> |
