This invention provides an aromatic polyamide fiber comprising a structural repeating unit of formula (1) and not less than 30% by moles, based on the total amount of the aromatic polyamide structural unit, of a structural repeating unit of formula (2), the fiber having a strength of not less than 20 cN/dtex and tensile modulus of elasticity of not less than 500 cN/dtex. (1) (2) wherein Ar¹ and Ar² each independently represent an unsubstituted or substituted divalent aromatic group.
