A disk drive including a non-volatile memory having multiple operation modes is provided to keep electric power without losing data by receiving record data from a host without escaping from an idle mode. A rotatable recording disk stores data from a host computer(18). A data controller(12) transmits the data from the host computer to the disk. A volatile memory(30) is connected to the controller to store the data temporarily. A non-volatile memory(32) is connected to the controller. The controller comprises a first and a second operation mode. In the first operation mode, the controller records the data in the non-volatile memory, when the disk is not rotated. And in the second operation mode, the controller records the data in the non-volatile memory, when the disk is rotated.
