[Also in Group XXXIV] A pump of the rotating cylinder swash-plate type has lubricating apparatus comprising a rotor 24 with a flange 25 formed with a radial surface 26 which is spaced from a parallel surface 21 on a bearing race 19. The space 33 between the surfaces contains rollers 31 mounted in a cage 38 formed with apertures to permit circulation of lubricant. The rotor 24 has a journal 27 formed with a cylindrical surface 28 spaced from a cylindrical surface 22 on the bearing race 19. The space between these two surfaces contains rollers 29 mounted in a cage 32. The pump casing has a chamber 18 for lubricant. When the pump is in operation the roller bearings 31 and the cage 38 form an impeller which draws lubricant from the chamber 18 through passageways 103, space 33, annular passageway 104, connecting passageways 106, annular channel 70 and back to the chamber 18. Lubricant also flows from annular passageway 104 through outlet passageways 105 into the space 34 containing roller bearings 29. As lubricant passes along annular channel 70 it is cooled, the heat being dissipated through the walls of a dome 13. The pump comprises a cylinder block 66 driven from the rotor 24 through a universal joint 83 comprising a body 84 with holes 86 in which pivot studs on spherically-shaped caps 78 formed with arcuate grooves 89. These grooves receive axiallydirected splines 91, 98 in bores in the cylinder block 66 and the rotor 24. |
