<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress unnatural edge enhancement likely to occur near the angle of an image. <P>SOLUTION: In this image processing apparatus for using an edge enhancement signal created by a two-dimensional filter or the like to execute edge enhancement processing, whether there is a corner of an image around the target pixel of the edge enhancement processing is determined on the basis of the pixel signal of pixels around the target pixel, and an edge enhancement gain to be multiplied by the edge enhancement signal is determined on the basis of the determination result.
