PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a butt joining apparatus which is excellent in operability and workability, in which the butt welding of a band-shaped workpieces W on which positioning pilot holes are formed can be accurately performed. SOLUTION: This apparatus is constituted of: a cutting device 3 for cutting the band-shaped workpieces W on which the positioning pilot holes Wa are formed; positioning mechanism 4 for cutting which is composed of a plurality of positioning pins 4a for cutting for positioning the band-shaped workpiece W by being inserted into the pilot holes Wa when cutting the band-shaped workpiece W; first pay-off mechanism 5 for pushing the band-shaped workpiece W out of the positioning pins 4a for cutting; a clamping mechanism 8 for holding the cut end faces of band-shaped workpieces W in the butted state; a positioning mechanism 9 for butting which is composed of a plurality of positioning pins 9a for butting for positioning the band-shaped workpiece W by being fitted into the pilot holes Wa when butting the band-shaped workpiece W; welding equipment 10 for performing the butt welding of the butted part of the band-shaped workpieces W and the second pay-off mechanism 11 for pushing the band-shaped workpieces W out of the positioning pins 9a for butting.
