A turbine comprises turbine blades 3, an annular diffuser 5 and a collector (exhaust) 7, the diffuser 5 being downstream of the blades 3, and the collector 7 being downstream of the diffuser 5. The collector 7 comprises an annular main part 9 and a neck exit 11 located radially outwards thereof. In use the working fluid passes through the blades 3 and diffuser 5 to the collector 7 where it is split into two flows which travel around opposite sides thereof and arrive at the neck exit 11 travelling in opposite directions, the neck exit 11 comprising a partition 19 which keeps the opposed flows substantially separate therein. The diffuser 5 may have a curved shroud rim 15 which may comprise a flat rim extension (29, figure 11) or a spiral rim extension (31, figure 11) to increase pressure recovery. |
