Diesel fuel compositions contain nitric acid esters of cycloalkanols. Examples of compositions are given comprising gas oil and cyclopentyl nitrate, cyclohexyl nitrate, methycyclohexyl nitrate, dimethyl-cyclohexyl nitrate, the nitric acid ester of decahydro-beta-naphthol, and cuclooctyl nitrate. Ethylcyclohexyl nitrate and diethylcyclohexyl nitrate may also be used.
