To prepare letters &c. for automatic sorting in post-offices they are first provided with a transparent film which is formed of a fluorescent, luminescent or radio-active material and formed with holes denoting destination &c. The film may be adhesive on one side and may be applied by a device as shown. The film 4 is in the form of a strip which carries a fluorescent, luminescent or radio-active layer, parts of which are removed at 8, e.g. by a punching device. The punching device is controlled by a keyboard 3 upon which the operator sets up destination data read from the letter when in the first position. The punched tape is applied by a device 7 which having stuck it on to the letter cuts off the requisite amount. The written address is still readable through the tape. |
