A method for discriminating optical disc type and an optical disc for the method are provided to discriminate the type of an optical disc efficiently by detecting its own circular track pattern, and comparing the circular track pattern with identification information stored in equipment. A method for discriminating optical disc type includes the steps of: accessing an initial zone formed on an area which is 22.000mm to 22.616mm from the center of an optical disc; detecting identification information recorded in the specific area; and determining the type of the optical disc based on the identification information.
