<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording and reproduction system that can reduce video recording setting error made by an operator, facilitate recording setting operation, and reduce the consumption of a storage device. <P>SOLUTION: The recording and reproduction system comprises a recording and reproduction controller 100 which compresses moving image data etc., by high-efficiency encoding technique such as MPEG (Moving Picture Experts Group) as a standard of a moving image compression system, a recording device 101 which records the compressed data, and a plurality of display devices 103 and 104. The recording and reproduction controller determines a video recording state by using histories of use states by operators.
