An apparatus and a method for creating a multimedia object playlist in a portable terminal are provided to enable a user to except specific objects automatically from a multimedia object playlist using meta information, without the necessity of selecting desired multimedia objects one by one and creating a playlist. A portable terminal confirms whether an event to view itemized playlists is generated(401). If the event is generated, the portable terminal whether the user selects a specific classified item(403). If so, the portable terminal creates a playlist for the selected item and displays it through a display part(405). Then the portable terminal confirms whether the user selects a menu to view the meta data of a specific multimedia object among the displayed playlist(407). If so, the portable terminal extracts the meta data from a storage part and displays the extracted meta data through the display part(409). Afterwards, in case the user selects a menu to except the multimedia object from the playlist(411), the portable terminal records and stores the fact that the multimedia object should be excepted from the playlist(413). Then the portable terminal regenerates a specific multimedia object among the displayed playlist or creates a new playlist(415).
