PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of obtaining a satisfactory image by reducing dust images caused by toner scattering downstream of a primary transfer nip. SOLUTION: A first potential application member that applies a potential with a polarity opposite the electrification polarity of toner composing the toner image is disposed downstream of the primary transfer nip on the back side of an intermediate transfer belt without being in contact with the intermediate transfer belt. A second potential application member that applies a potential with a polarity opposite the electrification polarity of toner composing the toner image is disposed downstream of the first potential application member on the surface side of the intermediate transfer belt without being in contact with the intermediate belt.
